During my time as a combat journalist, everything that was not in line with the party line was to be taken as either enemy propaganda or a poorly timed joke.
Then the inevitable happened, and I was wounded.
During my time in hospital, I began to see things from a rather “yin” point of view.
Suddenly, all of the lunatic ravings of the physically and mentally infirm began to take on a profound meaning for me.
“Isn’t there anything I can do?” I asked my doctor. “I want to regain my strength.”
“No. All you can do is to report.”

Ah, I’ve missed your stories! I found it ironic that as a war correspondent reporting on what’s happening and not taking arms, he was injured anyway. When the doctor told him to do nothing but report, I laughed. Perhaps his reporting on the lunacy around him, will only drive him crazy, as well.
Your writing reminds me of Hemingway. Blunt and to the point, but so many meanings in between the lines. Outstanding work.

Our intrepid reporter has many miles to go before he sleeps. To be honest, I wish he would go on and get it over with so I could go back to writing “Across the Room and into The Fire.” But it’s as John Lennon said, “Life is what happens when you’re busy planning other things.”

The Lennon quote is so true. Funny how so many people who had hassled me to make elaborate plans also came up with emergencies that required dumping whatever plans I had.

Isn’t it incredible the rock solid things we do with our lives when that happens? I would be furious when my own plans were disrupted, only to look back and say to myself, “Today, you did a good deed.”

Another fine piece. At the risk of being too philosophical, we do only start to see things from another point of view after being wounded, don’t we?
And my favorite Lennon quote/song is “Nobody told me (there’d be days like this).” Which is true more often than I like to admit. Or, maybe I just wasn’t paying attention.

I read somewhere, illness and suffering bring one in the same plane with the other victims.
War is such a cruel thing, it never shows mercy to the ‘yin’ part of human’s soul 😦

When I read this a few days ago (sorry, technical difficulties), I was inclined to mix up reality with fiction. However, I cannot decide which is which since I don’t know you well enough. Suffice to say that your writing caught me off guard; I fell into the trap, and now I’m left wondering …
Off-topic(ish): I finished the Trumbo book a while ago and have been hoping that some piece of worthwhile poetry will emerge from my weary brain. So far, no go. The book however, will remain entrenched (pardon the pun) in my mind until I depart this earth.
