Open oceans sigh
Too calm, these glassy waters…
Missing fishermen

Now this conjures up wonderful images
of small fishing boats and days
gone by.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. The boat is an old curragh. Both that photo and the graveyard photo from the other haiku were taken on the Aran islands. In days gone by. Thanks for reading.

I sense a hint of dark in your last two haiku, and I think that’s marvelous! Is it curragh or currach?
Oceans hide their secrets well.

The dark would be your influence on me.
Both curragh and currach are correct. The latter is probably closer to the correct pronunciation, but the it’s a softer sound from the back of the throat. Thank you for reading.

Many thanks. The title is a riff on the David Gilmour album “On an Island”. If you haven’t heard it, you should give it a listen sometime. I think you’d like it.

I’m a big Kate Bush fan, and spouse loves PF; I’m sure we’d both enjoy it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think this is what is meant by “eerily peaceful”…. I like it, despite the nagging question of what happened to the fisherman, and my suspicion that there are tentacles waving under the surface. But maybe that’s just me.

It’s funny that you’d say that. People think they know what’s under the ocean’s surface. But they don’t….

I think we can thank Peter Benchley for that…

In all truth, that’s it. My grandfather had “Jaws” on his bookshelf. I looked at the cover a lot; naked lady swimming in the ocean; good. Giant shark; bad. I never got over either one. 🙂
